Goals
Our basic aims are:
1) to collect as many different species of the phylum Cnidaria as possible from Japanese waters; and
2) to collaborate with Japanese researchers who are interested in the biology of cnidarians.

Both of these aims serve to advance the overall objective of the Cnidarian Tree of Life Project, which is to understand of the evolutionary history of Cnidaria. In turn, knowledge about biological history provides a context that makes it easier to address all sorts of questions about the ecology, development, behavior, etc. of cnidarian species.
